17. Tim Cahill - 2009/10

Injury Worry

After setting up Steven Pienaar with a great back heel, Tim was forced off with a calf injury on the hour mark against Sporting Lisbon. Moyesy must wait and hope that it's just a calf strain and not a hamstring injury, so the influential midfielder will be available against the mancs on Saturday.

Moyesy says: "Cahill may have a calf strain, we're not sure of the severity yet." (17/02/10)

Europe - It's What Its All About

Europe beckons this week as the Blues face Sporting Lisbon in Tuesdays's tea time kick off. Tiny like us all is excited as the knockout stages of the Europa Cup begins. A week on Thursday we are then all off on our jollies to Lisbon to hopefully win the tie and get the Blues through to the last sixteen, oh and I nearly forget manure in the middle of it all. Shit it's what its all about !!

Tiny says: "I'm just excited. When you draw Sporting, you are in with the best teams in the world. I just wanted to learn as much as I could about their team, their stadium and the attendance they get. Europe is different because we haven't been in too many European competitions; it's something the fans live for – taking the club to the next level, not only on the pitch but off it.

Them travelling and having special away days, it's a reward for them, and they respond by supporting their team and being the 12th man. I tell you, you can't hear anything, and when that ball goes in the net it's an explosion of fireworks. It shakes through you." (13/02/10)

Derby Day Banter Begins

So then February is on us, and what a big month it is, starting this Saturday at Analfield against the shite. Manure, Chelski and Spurs follow as well as a jaunt to Lisbon in Europe, and Tiny believes because of the hard times we endured earlier this season, the boys hard work is getting them now what they deserve. I am not asking for much just twelve points and the next round of the Europa Cup please fella's COYB FTRS IMWT

Tiny says: "We're excited about what lies ahead. It feels all the more special because we went through hard times earlier in the season and now we are getting what we deserve. We've worked hard to turn it around and we've still got a lot of players coming back from injury who are going to find it hard to get in the team.

The derby is one of our big games of the season and we're looking forward to it. It's a game we always relish and so do our fans. We'll go there and give everything and hopefully the result goes our way. We just need to worry about ourselves and try and keep on improving. But if we get a result against them they might well be looking over their shoulders at us." (01/02/10)

We would Run Through Brick Walls For Moyesy

Tim has revealed the players had confidence in each other when the results were not going for Everton, and this has been proved in the last few performances when the results have gone our way.

Tim says: "We have been going through some difficult times in the past months and we have had to try and pull everything out of the locker and wait for the cavalry to come. Performances like this are a massive reward for everyone, especially the staff. A lot of people were starting to doubt us in the troubled times. You try and play but things don't work, but regardless of that the players keep going. It was always going to be a matter of time to do what we have done. The manager and players don't become bad overnight and it isn't a fluke what we have achieved in the past. The manager buys players he can trust."

We would run through brick walls for him and the poor run hurt us as much as it hurt him. We were letting him down. Even when you got knocks you play and that says something about the relationship here. The patience of the club is something as well. The chairman (Bill Kenwright) is as big a supporter as any of the fans and he is one of the reasons I signed here. The relationship he has with the manager is an honest one. The patience shown is a credit to the board and I think it is a good lesson to other clubs because in the modern era of football it is hard for managers. They get the blame for everything, but it is the players who cross the line." (18/01/10)

50 Not Out

Tim Cahill banged in his fiftieth goal for the Blues in Saturday's win against Carlisle in the FA Cup, and to put it mildly he is pretty happy with the feat. Tim who has been with the Blues for six seasons now, is hoping he and his team mates he get a chance to walk out at Wembley again, come May time. COYB FTRS

Tiny says: "I didn't know so I wasn't thinking about it before the game. All I was thinking about was getting the win. This is such a big competition for us and we did so well last year. To get through this round is great and we are in the draw, so it's exciting. It does mean a lot, thinking of it now. Fifty goals for a Club like this is something I will treasure for the rest of my life. Thinking about it now, I am pretty proud of it." (04/01/10)

Proud of My Boys

Stand in Skipper Tim Cahill was proud of the part the three youngsters played in the Blues 1-0 win in Athens last night. Seamus Coleman, Shane Duffy and Jose Baxter all starred in a rain sodden Olympic Stadium as Everton progressed to the knockout stages of the Europa Cup. Tiny is proud of his lads and convinced they all have a big future in front of them.

Tiny says: " This is when the youngsters need to step up. This is a chance for them to give themselves some sort of start this season and to help up become better and stronger. Duffy came on and took a touch and they nicked the ball off him. But he learned very quickly to clear the ball and to be a bit more composed. The way Seamus dealt with Juanfran coming down the left was impressive and Jose Baxter (did well) as well - I am very proud of them." (03/12/09)

Proud But Pointless

Tim Cahill is proud of the Blues display against the shite, proud of the fans, and he is proud to wear the Royal Blue. He is hoping that our superb display of footy against the poo will spur the Blues on, and get us out of the rut we find ourselves in. Brave words Tiny, now lets sort it out lads.

Tiny says: "We had two disallowed goals, a deflection for their goal, I think we kept them quiet. I had a chance; Felly (Marouane Fellaini) had a chance. There just seemed a bit more rhythm; understanding of each other was good. And if we don't concede, then we'll end up winning games like that or drawing and picking up points.

We are starting to show spirit and character again and pride of wearing the jersey; I'm still proud. I'm proud of the lads, I'm proud of the fans and what they showed us. There was a real lift and a real bite and that fire in the belly that we've been talking about and that we've tried to find in games like this." (30/11/09)

Take Responsibility

Moyesy is hoping Tim will be Everton's star and pop up with a crucial goal in Sunday's derby like he has in other important games.

Moyesy says: "In the past, Tim has come up with really important goals. Not just in derbies but against Chelsea and Man United, and you see what he does for Australia. He's well aware that his form is not all that it should be. He played better against Hull, but he is missing one or two of his buddies. But Tim needs to realise now that it is up to him to drag everyone along and take on responsibility.'' (28/11/09)

We Can Kick On

Tim Cahill believes Everton still can kick on and turn this season once again into a successful one. Last seasons fifth place finish and FA Cup Final appearance now seems like a distant memory after the Blues hit a rocky patch early doors this term, but once some of the big guns return to first team action, Tiny is adamant that the Blues will be on a flyer.

Tiny says: "I think the hunger’s there. Being in the FA Cup final last year and finishing fifth in the league, we have to build on that. We definitely are good enough – it’s whether or not we can make it happen. We’re at the stage where we’ve got to kick on.

The lads that have been in the team have been fantastic and we need that bit of extra help. It’s about how we kick on and get more injured players back to share the workload." (16/11/09)

My Proudest Moment

Tiny has now captained the Blues in the last four matches, and even though the games may not have gone our way, Tiny takes his role seriously and looks on it as the biggest moment of his career. The Rat, Waggy, Phil Neville, Big Mick Lyons and the late great Brian Labone have all led the Blues through our illustrious history, and Tiny is not lost on those facts. He is urging his team mates to carry on working hard, and he will not shirk the challenge in Phil's absence of leading the team to victory, hopefully starting against Benfica this Thursday evening.

Tiny says: "It's a massive honour and a privilege to be a captain of such a big team. It's something in my career that is probably the biggest moment for me. It's something I don't take lightly; it's been very disheartening to wear the armband and lose games but today we turned it around. The gaffer looks for leadership and if I have the armband or not I will always be a leader of this team.

I have been here a long time and we lost our way a bit in the last three weeks but now it's all about getting our heads down and just working." (03/11/09)

Proud Captain

Tim believes Everton’s 5-0 and biggest European defeat is the wake-up call they needed. Cahill was proud to be captain of an injury-ravaged Everton side. He wants to come back strong against Bolton.

Tim says: “We can hit Bolton on the rebound. We just want to put in a good performance and try to get back to winning ways. We want to show the kind of flowing football we are capable of. We have a lot of firepower and we will soon have a lot of injured players back in the frame. Did that Benfica defeat knock our confidence? Yes and no. Maybe it’s a nice wake-up call to say, ‘Let’s try to kick on now and put this result behind us. It’s the wake-up call we needed. For some of the players who have been at Everton for a long time, it is now time for us to react and show what it means to put on the jersey. I was devastated because it was one of the best days of my life, being captain, but the worst because of the result. It was a harsh lesson.” (23/10/09)
