20. Steven Pienaar - 2009/10

Home is Where Your Heart Is

Nuts has dispelled any shit that he is off after this Summer's World Cup, by saying he is happy with the Blues and he has no intention of moving anywhere. He goes on to say that the Blues is his home and he intends to be round for a long time to come.

God is Great, Nuts ain't bad either !!

Nuts says: "I feel this is my home. The supporters have always been good to me and I always give 100 per cent. I definitely aim to play here for a lot longer, why not? Talk of moving is only rumours and I am definitely enjoying my football here.” (18/02/10)

"Running Down The Wing... See His Dreadlocks Swing..."

Since he's come back from injury, peanuts has been outstanding. He continued at Arsenal with a great display and finished it with a wonder goal. Looking at it again on TV makes you laugh at the desperation in Almunia's eyes, when he knows he's been done by the most delicate lob, but still tries to get back sliding on the floor. World class Steven.

Peanuts says: "The only thing I remember was that there was plenty of space in front of me and I thought when am I going to get to the goal!. I think I was only centimetres away from his hand but you have to have confidence to do that. I think I will have to watch it back to remember it properly. From what I remember now when I see it back I think I will say it is the most beautiful goal I have scored."

Moyesy says: "It was a top draw his finish, the finish was nothing short of genius." (11/01/10)

I'd Love To Stay

Some fans are worried that this year's World Cup will show other clubs Steven's skills, which in turn will get him a move away from Goodison. With the gifted midfielder being a bit of a globetrotter with him leaving South Africa to go to Holland, Germany and end up at Everton, the worries seem well founded, but the player himself has come out and said he wants to stay at the first club of the city. His form has been excellent since he returned from injury, scoring his first Premier league goal of the season against Burnley.

Peanuts says: “I made mistakes, but I learned a lot. I was a bit unfit and overweight. I had personal problems and lost some family members. I was more concerned about driving two hours every weekend to Amsterdam because my mind was still there. Some of the Dortmund players couldn’t accept I came from a Holland club, too. But it was a character-building experience and I knew I had to work hard from the moment I came to Everton.

We were having dinner and all of a sudden I was told as a new signing I would have to sing. That is how the culture is, so you have to get on with it. I sang a famous South African song – Shoshaloza – the sort Nelson Mandela would sing when he was in prison. The national team sings it, so it was in my head. They didn’t understand a word, but it helped me settle in.

I’ve always said I am happy. I’d love to stay and the fans are great. Some people say we won’t progress but we can" (01/01/10)

Killer Instinct

Peanuts admitted that he was frustrated with not getting the three points. He says the team has got to find the killer instinct.

Peanuts says:“If you play at home you have to take three points from games like this to get out of the position we are in, and it is very frustrating. We had chances and we could have scored two or three but that’s football. The last two games felt like wins even though we drew but drawing against Birmingham felt like a loss.

We played some good football and had a lot of possession but we just didn’t have the killer instinct. We knew Birmingham was a good chance to get all three points and now we have to go all the way to Sunderland to try and get a win. That’s not going to be easy the way they are playing at home and Steve Bruce is doing a good job.

It’s always nice having a lot of the ball for me in games, but sometimes it’s draining because I have to move all the time and sometimes my legs go. That’s just part of the game though and I have to give it everything. Other players will start taking responsibility too. I promised myself I would score against Birmingham but I got a bit overexcited when the ball came to me twice in good positions.” (21/12/09)

Bloody Brilliant

Moyesy is rightly heaping praise on Nuts since his return to the Everton fold in the last week. Nuts returned in the defeat against Hull, followed up by the defeat against the shite, but his personal performances have been top draw, culminating in a man of the match award in the win against AEK on Wednesday night.

Moyesy says: "He has been brilliant since his return. Steven has played so well in games. He has shown why we missed him so much and that is why he is such an important player for Everton. However so is Phil Jagielka, so is Mikel Arteta and in a lot of ways Victor Anichebe.

Just think of the way Victor changed games in Europe for us a couple of seasons. We don't have those players to use at the moment along with Ossie, Yobo and Phil Neville. I could go on and on about the players we don't have so lets just focus about the ones who are doing a great job." (14/12/09)

Nuts Could Face The Shite

Moyesy may have Peanuts at his disposal for this weekends clash against the shite. Hull City on Wednesday still might be a match to soon for the South African midfielder, but come Sunday dinner time Nuts hopefully will be lining up against our shitty smelling enemy.

Moyesy says: "Steven is the only one who is near coming back. He will hopefully train this week and we’ll take it from there." (23/11/09)

Nuts Targets Wolves

Nuts has stayed back from his International commitments to carry treatment on his knee with Top Super Sleuth Basil Rathbone. Basil is happy with Nut's progress and he expects him to be fully fit for the Wolves game a week on Saturday.

Basil says: "Steven got headbutted on the inside of the knee against Portsmouth and it was just unfortunate it caught him right on the medial ligament. He can use the exercise bike but it is pretty sore. I would though expect him to be there or thereabouts for the Wolves game." (07/10/09)

Scan On Knee Injury

Peanuts was stretchered off during Everton's game against Pompey after sustaining a suspected knee injury. The Everton playmaker will undergo a scan to find out the extent of the injury, but it looks like he will be out of the Europa League game in Belerus this Thursday. Moyesy hit out at referee Alan Wiley for missing the challenge.

Baz Rathbone says: "It's still too early to say. We had a look yesterday but we're letting it settle for a day or two. I will assess him again in the morning."

Moyesy says: "It's another late challenge. It's one of these late challenges which I'm sure will be picked up by the referee. We lost a player the other week against Fulham and now we may have lost another one. Before you know it they're going to be taking all of our players out if the incidents are not picked up on." (27/09/09)

Confidence Is Key

Steven is happy after the 3-0 win over Blackburn and the form of Louie Saha and believes the confidence winning brings will help the team move up the table.

Peanuts says: "For us, it was important to keep a clean sheet. Of course if you can do that, you won't lose any games. That was our aim and when we play at home, we know that we will create chances. We took them and it was a really great game for us. I definitely enjoyed the game. After Thursday's game the confidence of the players is up and it was important to get the three points today, but we have to keep going. We were lying second bottom and it's not nice looking at the table every day you wake up.”

"Louis is a good striker - which every team needs. We all know that he can score goals and it seems like every ball he touches is going in at the moment, so I'm happy for him. It's important to have players who can score in the team; Yak is coming back, Jo can also score, but Louis is at the top of his game at the moment. I've been working really hard since I came back for pre-season and it's getting better every game." (20/09/09)
