Moyesy believes he has signed a born leader in Phil. Well I will let the Boss explain....... Moyesy says: "Philippe gives us a bit of Premier League experience which he has had with Arsenal. He is hungry and he wants to go to the World Cup with Switzerland so maybe he has something to prove. Hopefully we can give him the opportunities to do that. Philippe was one of the people I was keen to look at in the summer. In the end though we chose to go in another direction but the ones who we keep tracking tend to end up here eventually and I am glad we have now got him. He is a leader in the way he plays. He wants to head the ball and he is a good defender. We will need to see if he can fit into what we do. Over the years we have been quite strong defensively but the injury to Phil Jagielka, the loss of Joleon Lescott and Joseph Yobo being away means we have chopped and changed trying to find the right balance. Philippe will now be amongst that and hopefully he will bring a little bit to the table." (26/01/10) Everton's new loan signing has confirmed that he was disappointed not to sign in the Summer, but delighted to get a chance now and get stuck in for Everton. It's up to him now. Rumour has it that If he does well, we could see him make the move permanent and see the Swiss International take over as a replacement for Joseph Yobo in partnering Phil Jagielka in the future. Phil will have the number 23 shirt just vacated by Lucas Neill. Get stuck in Phily! Phil says: "I am delighted to be an Everton player for the remainder of the season. I can't wait to get stuck in and play for Everton. Hopefully I can get some first team football in during my time here. I am here with high hopes and hopefully I can fulfil them. I have spoken to David Moyes and he hopes to give me opportunities here. Hopefully I can grab that opportunity and stay in the team. Everton's form over the last few weeks has been better and they are getting stronger." (26/01/10) |
