6. Phil Jagielka - 2009/10          Where's Jags?

Training

It is hoped that Jags will be joining training next week. What a boost that will be for everybody at the club. Good luck Jags

Moyesy says: "He is doing OK. He has had a couple of complications, so we have to get him right, but like Mikel we will try and get him back as soon as we can. He is and has been so important to us. We hoped he would have been back in the first week in January, and back when Jo had gone, but he’s had one or two things, cartilage and the fat pad in his knee has been causing problems. We need to get him up and running. It might take another four weeks until he is ready.

Everything being well may join in training next week.(29/01/10)

Double Boost For Jags

Out since April 2009, Jags was given a double boost this week when he started running at Finch Farm for the first time. He was also in the running for the England team player of the year. Click here to vote for Jags.

Moyesy says: “It is having a really positive effect on me! To see all those players back in training it feels like I have made five or six new signings this January! I feel fantastic. Phil Jagielka has been out running this week ” (10/01/10)

Setback

Bad news for all of us but especially Jags, who has had another operation on his knee. Keep your head up Jags. We love you.

Moyesy says: "Jagielka had an operation on a tear in his meniscus, which is the cartilage in his knee. We think four to six weeks. He was down initially but he's on the road to recovery now." (07/11/09)

Derby Day Return?

The Jag is targeting November 29th for his long awaited return to first team action, which just happens to be Derby Day. Our top draw centre half who has been out since injuring his cruciate against Sitteeeh back in April is well on the road to recovery, and he is looking forward to once again having the Ladyboy in his sky rocket.

The Jag says: "I'm feeling great. It's been a long, hard five-and-a-half months and there's still a way to go. Initially, I'd be hoping to be in back in the first week of November, but more realistic now is mid to late-November.

We'll just have to wait and see, but there's an interesting date on 29th November - when it's Liverpool (the shite) at home." (25/10/09)

See You Soon

Great news for Moyesy in that The Jag is only a month away from stepping up his rehabilitation from his cruciate ligament injury sustained back in April. Top Man Basil Rathbone is delighted with The Jags progress, and he reckons by November The Jag will be near enough back to normal, which if you don't know is shit hot laaaa.

Basil says: "We are very pleased with Phil Jagielka. He is doing some good quality ball work now. When we talk about the recovery time from a cruciate injury the absolute minimum is six months. The surgeon won't let a player go into any type of contact work for at least six months then you have to add on time to build up fitness and play in a few reserve games so you are looking at over seven months for a quick comeback." South Africa Goal

Moyesy is backing The Jag to blast his way back into the Blues team before Christmas, and in doing so earn his place on the plane to South Africa for next years World Cup Finals. The Blues need him first after leaking ten goals in four Premiership matches, but once he is back to his best, Fabio won't be far behind in getting him back in the England fold.

Moyesy says: "He's on schedule, and with a bit of luck he will be back in a couple of months.

With a pre-Christmas return on the cards, the manager explained that England's qualification for next year's World Cup finals in South Africa will be an added incentive for the defender to find form in the new year. I can see Jags being one of the ones who makes a late run to get in the squad. He was in it before (the injury). He was as good as any centre-half in the country at the end of last season - so I'm sure if he can get back fit and playing, then he'll be one who is talked about near the end of this season." (14/09/09)

We Can Rebuild Him, We Have The Technology

It may be a few months till The Jags will be stepping out for the Blues, but Moyesy is convinced that he will return better and fitter than before. Jags rehabilitation according to The Boss is coming on leaps and bounds after he ruptured his cruciate ligaments back in April in the Prem match against Sitteeehhh.

Moyesy says: "It’s been terrible for Jags. It was terrible for everyone to take; we had reached the FA Cup final by beating Manchester United then had a good draw at Chelsea. We then played a third game in six days against Manchester City and to lose Jags in that game was just dire.

He was distraught but, do you know what, he’s in absolutely incredibly shape just now; for the stage he is at in his rehabilitation, I don’t know if I’ve seen anyone better. It’s just incredible the way that he has come on." (16/07/09)

I Can't Wait To Get Back Training

Jags who is already back at Finch Farm working on his rehab, can't wait until his team mates get back so they can have a bit of banter about Tommy's Stag Do in Benidorm.

Jags says: "Everything is on schedule. It's a long process which is starting to get to me a little bit but I've got to keep smiling. The rest of the boys will be back in soon enough and they will have some stories and a bit of banter to keep me going for another month or two.

I've seen the Yak around plus Bainesy and Victor have popped into the training ground as well but when everyone is back I'm sure the days will go a lot quicker. I'm still looking at November. I go to see the specialist in four weeks and he will give me an idea how it is all doing.

I can't kick balls yet but it's a case of getting the knee right and not doing too much too soon. With the muscle waste my body hasn't been used to doing too much. I have to get my body used to being an athlete again and need to build up the strength in my knee." (01/07/09)
