3. Leighton Baines - 2009/10

Bainsey is Different Class

He may have took some time to settle at Goodison, but now a Blues team sheet would not look the same without Leighton Baines name on it. Team mate Tiny Tim is lauding Bainsey contribution of late as priceless, I shall let Tim explain...

Tiny says: "Leighton is first class. His assists this year have been unbelievable. For me, players like that are priceless and I thrive on his quality. I'm very lucky to have someone like that in the team. I practice in training with a lot of the lads but whenever there's a free-kick, I do appreciate it when Leighton is on them." (02/02/10)

Clean Sheet First Then The Win

The Europa League qualifier with Sigma Olomouc tomorrow is ideal for Everton to bounce back with a clean sheet after the spanking by the arse according to Bainsey.

Bainsey says: “First and foremost we'll be looking to get a clean sheet. Not just because we conceded so many in the last game, but also because we don't want to concede an away goal in Europe. We want to come away from the game and go over there with a few goals as well. It might not happen in the first 15-20 minutes but we don't want to go all gung-ho in the first half at the risk of conceding a goal, so it's important that we play sensibly.

The important thing is that we come away with a good win. It's good for us to have a game again so quickly and a chance to put in a performance.” (19/08/09)

A close knit Squad Is Best

A close knit squad of players is better than a group of big money signings. Bainsey thinks that Everton are better equipped than big spenders Sitteh to finish highest in the Premiership.

Bainsey says: “We’re not worried about what is going on at City. It’s actually quite interesting to see how they get on with it. With so many big-name players coming in, you have to think there is a lot of pressure on them to deliver this season. They haven’t really got time.

City are looking to speed the process up, and best of luck to them, but at Everton we are proud of what we have done over the last few years. We are a close-knit bunch and that can sometimes give you the extra per cent to get nearer the top, as opposed to just bringing in big-money players.” (27/07/09)
