Missing for the Europa Cup game due to being cup tied, Johnny is looking forward to being back in the blue shirt against the mancs on Saturday. He reckons if he keeps the manc striker quiet Everton will be looking for a better result than in November. Johnny says: "Yes, these are the games where I can distinguish myself. I really look forward to the match. I get to try to make Rooney, one of the best strikers in the world, look harmless. We were caught with our pants down at 3-0… I hope that we can correct this." (17/02/10) At the end of the Wigan game, all the players came to the away end to say thanks for the great support from the Everton fans who were in full voice after the late winner. Once again the fans saluted them all but special praise for John, who got the full bifftas with 'Oh Jonny Jonny..Jonny Jonny Jonny Jonny Heitinga'. Is his cult status because his is the only name which fits into the song? Moyesy says: “John has done well. He has improved. It was whirlwind start for him coming off for cramp in games, he was taken by the speed of it. We were in a period where it was difficult for him to come in. I said at the time I'd rather he started in midfield to get used to it. We did that in a few games, but injuries have forced him into he back. I still see him playing in two or three positions, his versatility is one of the reasons we tried to buy him.” (31/01/10) Some thought he was a right back, Jonny himself prefers to play centre half or defensive midfield, but for the next few months Jonny will undoubtedly be replacing Phil Neville in the heart of our midfield, due to our Captains ligament injury. Jonny Boy is cup tied for the Europa Cup till January (having played in the Champions League for Atletico Madrid), so he will sit out the AEK match, but on Sunday against Blackburn, Jonny will take his Goodison bow, in a must win match. Jonny says: "I'm playing for Everton now and I'm here for five years and it will be my first game at home. We've played four games and have only got three points, and it's not good enough for Everton. I enjoyed it against Fulham, but I would have had more fun if we had taken the three points back to Liverpool. It was my first few minutes in the Premier League - I enjoyed it but I wanted to win. I had had two training sessions now on Friday and Saturday and now I'm here - everything is going fast and next weekend is my first home game because I'm not allowed to play on Thursday in the Europa League." (15/09/09) Jonny Boy has joined the Blues to win trophies in the five years he has signed up for. He is wise enough to know that Everton are a team on the up, and sooner or later that piece of silverware we crave will be sat in the Goodison Trophy Room. COYB FTRS Jonny says: "I am signing here for five years and I want to win something with Everton. It is a strong squad that we have here and they played very well last year. I have come to Everton to play in the Champions League and I will give everything I have, more than 100 per cent, in every game." (04/04/09) Jonny Boy is now a Blue, and before he has kicked a ball in anger he is certainly saying the right things. If you know yer history, Jonny certainly does. Jonny says: "I am proud to sign at the People's Club. It's a nice club and a club with a big history. I saw a lot of Everton games last season and they have a strong team. I spoke with the manager earlier and the feelings were good. The training ground is really good and it's a typical English stadium and I love it." (03/09/09) |
