25. Marouane Fellaini - 2009/10

Six Months For Screech

Screech is on the sidelines for at least the next six months after the horror challenge by that Greek prick in the Blues recent Derby defeat. Screech has an ankle injury similar to the one that kept Robin Van Persie out for a nearly a season. The shame of it all is that the Belgian International was in the form of his life. Get well soon Screech !!

Moyesy says: "He's not good. He's going to have an operation. He's got a similar injury to Robin van Persie and it's probably going to keep him out for six months." (16/02/10)

Scan For Screech

Screech ended up in hospital as a precautionary measure after the horror challenge by the Greek shite player ended his Derby Day prematurely.

A scan at Analfield came back clear but the medical team at Everton decided it was best he took a trip to the hossy. He is a major doubt for the Chelski match on Wednesday night.

Moyesy says: "He has has been taken to hospital for a scan, fortunately the x-ray (at Analfield) was clear.

I thought the first one was a sending off (Nuts challenge on the Argy). He was off the ground and it was two-footed. It was right in front of me." (07/02/10)

Happy Days

Back off Chelski and any other suitors out there, as Screech is determined to see out his Blues contract. The Belgian International has three and a half years left on his current deal, and with him in the form of his life, he has never been happier at Everton.

Screech says: "I'm really happy at Everton. I have three years left on my contract and everything is going really well. I'm just focused on doing my best for the club. Doing my job here and doing what I'm being paid to do. Whatever happens in the future? Well, all I'm concentrating on is the present and Everton.

We made things really difficult for ourselves at the start of the season and now we're out of both cup competitions, but we're still in Europe. So the aim now is to get as far as we can and win as many games as we can between now and the end of the year." (03/02/10)

And Now You're Gonna Believe Us

Maro, Felli, Screech, the afro hairstyle, his 6 foot 5 inch frame and his ability to get booked more than any other Everton player were the things Evertonians were talking about since he joined the club at the beginning of last season. Fellaini wigs were in abundance at our two trips to Wembley at the end of last season. He has been asked to play up front, just behind the centre forward and he never stops and does his best. Recently though the talk has been about Fellaini the player. It's no coincidence that his place in the side in the middle of midfield has helped him. Moyesy recently called him 'probably the best midfielder in the country' and after Saturday's 10 out of 10 performance against Man City you'd find it hard to disagree with him. It all culminated with a great bit of skill destined for a place on Soccer AM. Maro has finally arrived and he's only just turned 22. (19/01/10)

D'oh Screech Snr Puts His Foot In It

There is no doubt that Screech at last is showing the potential that made Moyesy fork out £15m big ones for him eighteen months ago. Screech however needs to have a word with his Homer Simpson like 'arl fella', and tell him to keep his gob shut. He is now touting him round the so called bigger clubs in the Premiership, saying that he will one day play for a big club. Big club Mr Screech, obviously you don't know yer history; English League Titles Everton 9 Chelsea 3, nuff said.

Screech's Dad Homer says: "He’s been voted man-of-the-match three times in his last five games. It makes no difference to him as he has got his feet on the ground. The big clubs see that he is doing well. So he is very closely followed by Chelsea. But he has a contract for three seasons. I hope that I will see him work at a big club.

Marouane belongs at a really top club and he will only get better. I've always had confidence in him and the English league is tailor-made for him." (12/01/10)

Best Form Yet

If we are being honest in the eighteen months that Screech has been at the Blues he has had his doubters, but in the last month or so, maybe we are seeing the form that made Moyesy break the bank to bring the ex Standard Liege midfielder to Goodison. Since he has dropped back into the holding role Screech has been a revelation, with some top draw performances. The Belgian International is loving it now, but he will play wherever the Boss puts him. That's the spirit oh hairy one !!

Screech says: "Obviously I do my best wherever I play. If I’m put up front or just behind the striker, I’ll play wherever I’m put. But I’ve always said that this is my best position. I’m enjoying playing here again. I just do my job out there on the field. I try to do my best. All I want is that the team wins, that’s the most important thing for me.

It’s nice to hear things like this but it is always the results that count. We’ve got players coming back but then we’ve won a few games recently, and played well doing so. Victories can give you confidence and the confidence can help you get better results. It all works together.” (11/01/10)

Best Midfielder In The Country

After his man of the match award at Sunderland, Moyesy has given Screech a glowing report.

Moyesy says: "I think in Marouane Fellaini is probably the best midfielder in the country at the moment. He was exceptional today and his goal was reward for the way he played today. Felli has played really well recently. In fact, you could argue he has been our best player in the last few games. His experience of the Premier League is improving and he is now doing really well.

I thought the first half of the season would be the worst for him after his first campaign. He had such a good first season. He scored a lot of goals as a newcomer and I thought the first half of this season would be a struggle for him. But I can see signs now that he is beginning to get to top form and be good for the team. He has played deeper for the last three or four games and he is getting better at it. He is beginning to understand the duties. He is settling down and not chasing everything all over the pitch. He is generally settling down and has arguably been our best player in recent weeks. He is an influence on the pitch." (27/12/09)

Screech the Trouble Maker?

Dick Advocaat the Belgian Coach is not a happy bunny when it comes to Screech. He still has not forgot the Blues midfielder's excuse as he missed Belgium's last World Cup Qualifier against Estonia, and apparently he rates him as a trouble maker. Belgium's Manager it seems is out to make an example of Screech, and we may not have heard the last of this International spat.

Dick says: "I still think it was very strange for him to make an appointment like that, and miss a World Cup game, because it was a very important week for Belgium. That is still clear in my mind, and I will remember it. Fellaini did not do a good thing for me.

Sometimes, these things can happen in football, but, in my opinion, it was not appropriate conduct for a player with a national team. It seems to me that there are one or two players in the squad who place themselves above the rest, and I am working to put that right." (14/11/09)

Screech Can Play

All in all not a bad week for Screech, as after having his wisdom teeth took out and gaining a few quid from the tooth fairy, our balding Belgian midfielder also gained FIFA clearance to play against Wolves this weekend. It was decided that Screech had not contravened any of FIFA's rulings, and he has been given the all clear to be in contention for a start against The Wolves on Saturday.

Blues PR Guru Ian Ross says: "The Belgian FA did lodge an appeal with Fifa asking them to implement the five-day ruling. However, Fifa have contacted the Club this morning to say that we have no case to answer and that we did comply fully with all necessary legislation. We are delighted with the news as Marouane will be available for selection on Saturday." (15/10/09)

Screech In The Clear

It had looked like Screech's trip to the dentist could have cost him a start this weekend against Wolves, as his country Belgium were going to invoke FIFA's five day rule. The rules means that if a player is not fit to play for his country, he cannot appear for his club within the following five days. The Blues believe they have not contravened any rules ands are confident that Screech will be able to line up against Mick McCarthy's men.

A double boost for Screech is that the tooth fairy also left him a few quid under his pillow, but reports in some media outlets that he is putting towards a hair cut are believed to be unfounded.

Blues PR Guru Ian Ross says: "As a club, we have met all the required obligations. We were required to release Marouane Fellaini for the two international games - which we did. We were told that the player had struck an agreement with the Belgian national manager which meant he would be available for their game on Saturday but would then be omitted from Wednesday's game as he required minor surgery to remove a wisdom tooth.

It would appear that the manager changed his mind and told Marouane that he would, after all, be needed on Wednesday night. Marouane said he still intended to go ahead with the operation - hence the resulting problem. It is a dispute between player and manager and does not, as such, involve Everton. So, we do expect Marouane to be available for selection for Saturday's game against Wolves." (13/10/09)

Weight Loss A Concern

Maro has been struck down over the Summer with a virus, which has seen the 21 year old loose some weight. Although he's played a few games, Moyesy is still concerned that he still needs to put weight back on to get back to his fighting best.

Moyesy says: "Fellaini has had an illness for most of the summer which has affected him. He picked up a viral infection in the summer. It got into his blood, he lost a lot of weight and he wasn't a boy that could afford to lose any weight.

It's noticeable looking at him how thin he has become. It has definitely had an effect on his overall performance. It is going to take a little while I feel for him to get his full strength back. I don't think he is there yet. He has not been right all through pre-season and he is still not right.

"When you are the shape and build he is, when you lose weight it's not all that easy to put it back on. Since he has come back we've been trying to get him built up, but the weight is not going back on at the moment." (03/08/09)
