Thank God for Nigel Martyn

He put the rest to shame, week in an out he turned in solid performances. Where do we go from here? The club is bigger than one player so sell the boy for as much as poss. Buy the spine of a new team and I mean new, and introduce young lads who'll run their guts out for the badge. The present side are the worst in living memory, and should be totally ashamed to look the supporters in the eye. We are down but not out. No More New Signings

So that its it then, we now know that the players Moyes said would not be with us after the Man City debacle will still be with us, and the "many" signings to follow Marcus Bent may not happen at all. He is "still searching". I have paid up for my tickets and would anyway, but I now know that Birch/Kenwright have utterly failed to back the manager, and we are in for another awful scrap to avoid relegation using the likes of Carsley and Lie Tie etc. At least we know now, and no illusions like there were last August. Rooney in the Press Overseas

Here in Norway, the newspapers aren´t speculating whether the Duke will leave or stay, but which team he´ll join. It´s frustrating being a blue and all you have to read about are Wayne joining Scum the first day and Chelski the other. They´re not leaving us any chance keeping him or keeping the spot in the premiership. -K- (07/07/04)

Everton Web Sites

I agree with Mickey on the sun issue. His agent, his family and himself are all to blame in some way. What really eats into my flesh is the so called 'Everton web sites' such as Toffeeweb, who slag Rooney off for doing the deal with the sun, then put links to the story every day. That is pathetic. Over Paid

I and 80 other people have just been made redundant after 20 years work, so personally if Gravesen or any other player, doesn't want to earn £ 30,000 a week or whatever stupid fuckin money those twats earn, well fuck off and try and live on £55.00 a week you overpaid baldy fuckin prima-donnas. He wears the Number 9 for England but is our No. 18. While the number associated with the Everton legends is on the back of an ageing parasite. Wayne has been quoted as saying one of his dreams was to captain the club - lets start early by promising the Number 9. At 18 he would join the immortals at the club - Dean , Lawton. Young, Royle, Latchford. Rooney already deserves the shirt. As for the future I know it doesn't look hopeful but we need to find a voice to shout over the noise of the media and the suggestions of his agent to remind Wayne that he is one of us.

He didn't choose to be and Evertonian - he was chosen. Born a blue, live a blue, die a blue. How do we remind him ? Any ideas about a concerted effort in the local press/radio/TV to get it through to him and his family what it means to us to watch this charade go on from day to day and feel so utterly powerless.

This Rooney Thing

Sorry, Kevin. As much as you're entitled to your opinions about Wayne, I don't agree. You and me be of similar age and Everton experience, my first game being Everton
8 Cardiff 3. I'm sure both of us have contributed more to EFC that Wayne has, to date. I still remember the gut-wrenching pain when we sold Bally and the disgust
when Lineker was sold for club profit. I'm obviously not the forgiving, understanding human being you are but make no apologies.

We don't turn against our own..tell that to McMahon and Jeffers. Didn't these two beauts go to `further their careers' as well? Why would Wayne be untouchable? If he goes he'll be just the most gifted mercenary; why should his talent make him above criticism? Of course, I'm talking as an ordinary Joe who's never going to be offered
such a wage rise but, for Christ's sake, how much cash do you need? Money talks, but it don't sing and dance and celebrate in the Winslow.

I read a comment form another Blue that Wayne should become a naturalised Brazillian so he can play for a bigger country with better players. The logic's no different from the current media advice. As you know, apart from 2 or 3 examples, football success is cyclic not persistent. Whoever Wayne goes to, I wish them nothing but failure, in every respect. The Duke of Goodison

If anyone thinks that Wayne Rooney will keep Everton in the Premiere League they live in cookoo land. No one player even the Duke can do this, there is nothing, he or any other single player can do to keep Everton in the top flight. We need four good players to survive, six players to get in the top halve of the league and NINE to challenge the top three.

If Wayne wants to go, we should be happy that he will become a better player. We should also be grateful that he helped this club to survive long term. He needs to go, for the long term future of this club, Everton need him to go, on this occasion the supporters need to come second and be great that at least he was a blue, even for a short time.
