Everton:
Howard, Neville, Heitinga, Senderos, Baines, Donovan, Fellaini, Osman Bench: Nash, Bilyaletdinov, Vaughan for Saha, Rodwell, Anichebe for Donovan, Coleman, Duffy. Referee: Lee Prostrate (fuggin atrocious) Even though the JJB stadium has been renamed the DW stadium you could still tell we were at Wigan as we were entertained by a local brass band, while eating a Poole's pie. And very nice it was too. The pie, I mean. The wigan loudspeakers bellowed out 'Go West' in an attempt to get the home fans going. A big own goal as the Toffee men sabotaged it with a rendition of 'Duncan.. Duncan Ferguson.' Everton's only change from the midweek win against the Black Cats was Senderos coming in for Buzz Lightyear. On a freezing sunny day Everton were out of the blocks quickly and in the first few minutes a ball played over the top saw Tim Cahill get a head of steam past Wigan new signing Gary Caldwell. The Scottish slow coach was left behind until he grabbed hold of Tim's shirt. A blatant foul and sending off as he was the last man. But you only get things like this if the ref and linesman see it. We got fuck all. Everton continued to take the game to Wigan and Ossie had a chance, which he scuffed when well placed. At the back Heitinga and Senderos were doing well . The new signing endeared himself to the Everton fans with a few early crunching tackles and a few simple passes. He'll do for me. It was a battle all around the pitch and Everton had to match Wigan, who were getting stuck in. Wigan's hard work would have paid off if they had a striker of the calibre of King Louie. Thankfully they didn't and Howard dealt with a shot by Jason Scotland with ease. The Everton keeper also watched as two shots by Scotland and one by Rodallega flew into the in arms of Evertonians behind the goal instead of the net. At the other end Saha saw a shot deflect off Tim Cahill onto a post, then Wigan keeper Stojkovic brilliantly tipped his header over the bar and finally appealed unsuccessfully for a penalty when Caldwell decked him. Half Time Wigan 0 EVERTON 0 Again Everton started brightly and Bainsey had the Wigan keeper scrambling over to parry away a free kick. That was the last of the goal action for over 20 minutes. The game turned into a hard slog with Wigan slightly on top. The pitch was cutting up and Peanuts and Ossie were both finding it difficult getting their passing game going with the pie eaters breathing down their necks. Both players got booked as their frustration got the better of them. Some fans were not fearing any better, Saha and Cahill their targets. Everton stuck to their task and went down the other end to score a perfectly good goal. The linesman didn't think so and put his flag up to deny Felli. Tim Cahill had worked wonders to get to the byline and pull the ball back for the big wooly haired one to slot. Big Vic entered the frey for Lanny, who besides a few good runs had not been involved in the game that much. Everton finally got the goal they deserved when Saha did well to force a corner. Bainsey took it and Tim Cahill rose unmarked to crash a header home with only minutes to go. Cue bedlam in the away end and pockets of Everton fans in the main stand being escorted from the ground. Everton got lucky when a shot by N'zogbia smashed against the bar. Happy days! Everton just about deserved their win. Of course I'm biased, but the work the players put in matched that of the Wigan players and our class showed in the end. The star man for me was Tim Cahill. He's starting to get a bit of stick from some quarters, but this fella never gives less than 100% and is Everton through and through. He leads by example and even when he's not scoring or playing as well as his high standards take him he never hides. I love him. The redshite next week. Bring it on! Full Time Wigan 0 EVERTON 1

Moyesy says: "Wigan made it hard, but I thought we did enough to win the game - it was just about deserved, I think. It could've gone either way, but I think a bit of resilience kicked in. We had a lot to contend with, but it says a lot that we stuck at it. Was Gary Caldwell's pull in the first minute a sending off? It was stonewall. Was Louis Saha's a penalty kick? It was stonewall. Was it a goal that Fellaini scores? It was stonewall. So we had a really difficult afternoon with the officials. I think the officials nearly wore us down." It was trademark Tim Cahill. He feels good about it because he knows he is capable of that and he has probably not shown it quite as much this year. I think he is looking fitter and he has played better in the last six weeks and he is starting to feel much more like himself. Tim Cahill has always come up with important goals for us and he's done it again today." |

I was at the match. Although our overall performance was nothing to
write home about, I thought we showed great grit and determination at
times. If for better finishing for Wigan it may of been a different
result, but we took our chance and grabbed the 3 points. COYB. Alex
Hunter *
Thought Senderos looked awfully slow....probably not really match fit.
Mark Tracey * Thought Senderos was solid! Cahill header shades of big Dunc! If wigan had a decent striker we'd have been fucked! Mom for me Senderos! Bring on the shite! 1 0 Fellaini. Steve Shorey *
I thought the overall team performance was good, although the past few
games saha, hasn't really looked into it but don't get me wrong he's
been fantastic all season. I thought we were very unlucky not to have
a penalty as it was blatant, an we were unlucky to have that goal disallowed
as it was clearly onside, I think the ref was one of the worst I've
seen. Have to praise Senderos as well, thought he was excellent. Overall
I think we played well. Mark Mck |

Things got back on track on Wednesday after the FA Cup defeat against Birmingham. That win gave us 10 points out of the last 12. So another 3 against the pie eaters would be very welcome. We can’t see any reason why Moyesy would change the starting 11 from the Sunderland game. There are no reported injury problems so same again. That will do nicely. Mikel will be itching to start the game, but We don’t think Moysey will take any chances with him just yet. But what a bonus to see Mikky involved. It makes such a difference when you can call on him from the bench. He picked up a groin strain in a practise match before Wednesdays game and Moyesy will not risk him. He's looking at the big picture. So we will all have to be a little patient. Now talking of benches. It was the strongest we’ve had this season. In addition to Mikky we have Swiss Phil, Billy, Big Vic, Vaughany and Seamus all looking for a game. Come to think of it when we get the Nigerian lads and Hibbo, Jack and Jags back from injury there will a big kick off just to get on the bench. Happy days. With the squad that we have available we should be too strong for Wigan, The trouble is you don’t know what side will turn up. The side that beat Chelsea 3-1 or the side that had 9 against them by Spurs Tim Howard says: "I know the derby is on the horizon but I’m excited about Saturday. Even though we are away we feel if we can put it a good shift we can get the points. Our confidence is probably the highest it has been for a while. The injured guys are coming back and that gives everyone a lift." Moyesy says: "Mikel is getting closer but he picked up a groin strain in a practice match here and he was on the bench the other night. He is a doubt for tomorrow. I will make a decision tomorrow when I see how he is. If it had been a month or so ago when we were short of players we might have put Mikel back out. But what you have got to remember is this boy has been out for a year. It is not like someone who has been out for a month or six weeks. We have to be careful that I don't do something that I will regret with Mikel. But what we have seen of him so far I think we are all looking forward to seeing longer moments of him. With the European games coming up Mikel is vital because he can help keep the ball and pass it well so I have got to be mindful of that." (29/01/10)

Shit, poo and double poo. Two nil up after twenty minutes against Sunderland and we only needed one more goal in the next hour and a bit to make some dough, but no the God's conspired against us again, and we ended up potless. I despair, I really really despair, and I don't know were to go. I am at the bottom, I scratch myself religiously, wash my hands every two minutes, my OCD is worse than it has ever been, ahh nothing that a few trays of Stella can't put right though, problem is I started at 6am this morning on my first cache. It has however cleared my head, so I can now attack those vermin book makers to get back my cash, remember when your at the bottom, the only place to go is up. Dream of the holiday in Towyn this Summer, or the day out you have planned in September to St. Helens, life can be good, now lets win some dough. Like Sunderland, the Pie Eaters are a team we like playing and beating. In our ten meetings, we have won six, drawn two and lost two. Those Wigan boys have only ever beaten us once at home back in November 2008, and with the six odd thousand fans we will take over it will be like a home match for us. We are 5/4 for the away, Wigan 11/5 and the draw is 12/5. A few little ditties for today. We have not kept a clean sheet on the road for seven matches, King Louis is one goal away from netting 100 Premiership goals, and Wigan have the best pies in the area. This is never a high scoring match, so we shall steer clear of that one this week, but if you fancy that clean sheet you can get 2/1, and for King Louis to net you can get 2/1 (score anytime).
