Quotes After The Game

Moyesy says: "It was a terrific performance. We played really, really well today and should have taken all three points.

"It was a bit similar to last week, but the players played really well. They are beginning to show how they can play a bit but at this moment in time we just can't get the ball in the net.

"I think that we controlled the bulk of the game. I thought, first half, we had the most of it, second half we've done it again.

"Maybe again just the final ball - the finish was lacking. I thought we got the ball in plenty of times to do more damage.

"We didn't hit the target often enough with our shots, especially in the first half.

"But if we hadn't got a goal it would have been an injustice, that's for sure."

Off The Ball

* On Boxing Day The Blues play Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, and as is customary at Christmas, Sunderland request a minutes silence for all their fans and ex players who have passed away in the year. Below is Sunderlands request to all Blues fans who no doubt will want to remember any loved ones we have lost in the last twelve months;

SAFC HOLD PERIOD OF SILENCE PRIOR TO EVERTON GAME

Sunderland AFC will once again continue the tradition of observing a period of silence at the last home game of each year, in memory of supporters and former Sunderland players who have passed away this year. The Club invites both home and visiting fans to remember those supporters who are no longer with us and also pay tribute to those former Sunderland players who have passed away in recent months.

Septimus Taylor, Fred Jenkins, Jack Kennedy, Jack Boyd and former Chairman Keith Collings, have all sadly passed away this year. The period of silence will take place just prior to kick off at Saturday’s game against Everton and supporters are asked to take their seats early in order to ensure that it is observed in the appropriate manner. Everton Team News

Same old same old really. All the usual suspects are out, Phil Neville is getting nearer to a return, but the Boxing Day clash is still a bit too soon for him. Vaughny is in the squad, but I suspect Moyesy will stick with the same eleven that drew with Brum last Sunday. In the last week though we have now lost Jack the Lad for a month, so our injury woes deepen further.

The Mackems are one of our favourite teams to play against, and we always seem to play them over the festive period. In the last four matches against the Black Cats we are unbeaten, winning all four, scoring thirteen times in the process conceding only one. We are also unbeaten up at the Stadium of Light winning on our last four visits, the last was a 2-0 win back in May courtesy of Nuts and Screech in scoring form.

We are though in a poor run of winning form, one win in our last eleven, though we have become the draw experts of late. We are yet to beat a side who lie in the top half of the table this season, so lets hope we remedy that stat this Boxing Day. COYB

Moyesy says: "Sunderland is a good atmosphere and the expectations have risen a little there. But they haven't won for a few games so we need to go there and see if we can make the most of it.

They are playing well because they were unlucky not to get something at Man City so we have to make sure we quash their attacks but go forward and get some goals ourselves. Football has been unpredictable in the Premier League this year, which is what is making exciting and entertaining for everyone.

Sunderland is a big test. Steve has done a really good job there and he has got Sunderland looking like a force in the Premier League. He has made some good signings and it is a good club - I have always liked going to Sunderland. He has done well with them. Darren has been a real threat and he has done well for them with his goals. If you have a regular goalscorer that can really help you in this league. That can make a real difference and he has helped them from the start.

Darren has been as good as anybody in the Premier League in terms of goals and contribution this season. He has been as good as Wayne for Manchester United or Craig Bellamy for City. That is how important he has been for Sunderland this year. We always liked Darren, but he was always too expensive for us."

Everton From: Howard, Hibbert, Baines, Coleman, Duffy, Neill, Mustafi, Heitinga, Bilyaletdinov, Cahill, Pienaar, Fellaini, Osman, Akpan, Saha, Yakubu, Agard, Nash.

Lavo's Best Bet In Association With Free Bet For The Blues

Ah well apologies to all for my lack of bet last week. It was a culmination of a Christmas piss up the night before, and my utter joy at bagging a winner when King Louis won us a few bob against Chelski a fortnight ago. Well to the job in hand today. Sunderland away is a good hunting ground for the Blues of late, with four wins on the bounce over the years. We won 2-0 there back in May, but our form this season is patchy to say the least. If you are brave enough to plump for a win for the Blues, we are just over 2/1, Sunderland for a home win are 8/5 and the draw is 5/2.

We also like to bang goals in against The Mackems. Seven flew past them a few years back, and in the last four matches (home and away) we have bagged thirteen against them. We also have an uncanny knack of keeping clean sheets against today's opposition, and for Tim to do it again, the bookies will give you a nice price of 11/4, and by God we are due one.

If you fancy King Louis to do the biz, you can get 13/2 for the first in the onion bag. Tiny who likes scoring up in the North East is 12/1. Good luck helmets !!

About The Opposition

Sunderland captain Lorik Cana returns after a one-game ban, but Steed Malbranque is a doubt with a dead leg. Michael Turner is suspended after his sending off at Manchester City, with an FA commission increasing his ban to four matches after rejecting an appeal.

Steve Bruce says: "It's five weeks ago since we beat Arsenal and everybody was absolutely delirious. You looked at the fixtures before then with Liverpools and Tottenhams and Manchester Uniteds in there and you think, 'This is going to be tough'.

You get through that and get over Arsenal and look on paper and think - but the Premier League is unforgiving and if you just make individual errors, you come two, three, four, five per cent off your maximum, you get punished by any team, and we have learnt a harsh lesson. We have put ourselves under a bit of pressure - everybody is under pressure in the Premier League, that's what it is - and we have got to get back to the way we were three, four, five weeks ago, and there were signs last week.

If we do that against Everton and get a win under our belts, that may kick-start us on again." (25/12/09)
