So then we brought our Everton year of 2009 to a close the way we started it, with a 2-0 home win (Hull January '09), a clean sheet and most importantly a return of the feel good factor that the Blues have been missing for a few months now. We tend to forget we are now five games unbeaten in the Premiership, but that does not disguise the fact that we are not winning. Our performances of late have been top draw, and once again yesterday our football and movement at time was a pleasure to watch. It is no secret that since Nuts has returned to the fold, we are playing what my mate calls 'proper footy'.

Confidence is low though, you can see that whenever a move breaks down. The build up play is superb, then one bad pass or shot, and you can see the confidence sap from some of the players. We needed that win hopefully to kick start our season, and thankfully thanks to Vaughny and Nuts we now have it.

It did take till eighty odd minutes of play for the Blues to get their breakthrough. It took a substitution from Moyesy, and then all of sixty seconds for James Vaughan to open the scoring. A ball from out wide on the left flew past the Yak, and Vaughny was on hand at the far stick to lash the ball into the Street End net. The Blues had chances throughout the match. The Yak hit the post in the first period after great work out wide again by Bainsey. Billy pulled a decent stop out of Jensen, as did The Yak in the second period, when his effort was finger tipped over.

Vaughny had broke the deadlock, and minutes later, great work from The Yak opened the gate for Nuts who fired his shot wide of Jensen to secure a two nil win for the Blues. We may have turned that proverbial corner, we saw Phil Neville play for the last half hour, The Jag and Mikky are still to come back, we lie top of the bottom half, and the FA Cup and Europe also beckons. Our half term report is could do better, but we are still in with a shout of European qualification yet again, and who knows maybe just maybe those Golden Arches, no not Maccy's but Wembley may still beckon for us.

Starman, a few candidates, Hibbo once again was outstanding as was Bainsey, but once again it was Nuts who gets my vote.

Quotes After The Game

Moyesy says: "It was pleasing for him [Vaughny]. I didn't think we needed to make the change at the time because the players were playing so well. We kept making opportunities but I just felt the last 10 minutes Vaughany could maybe do something different. What he did do different was be in the right spot to score it.

I'm really pleased we got the three points because they were an important three points. We probably played better here against Birmingham and we probably played better against Sunderland. I did think we were excellent in the first half especially and created plenty of opportunities but at this moment in time the final pass, the final ball, the finish isn't there. Getting a cleansheet was nice too though. We've not had many this year and we've not always looked capable of doing that.

Tim went over on his ankle but we're hopeful it's not too serious. Louis Saha had a tight hamstring so we didn't include him." (29/12/09)

Everton Team News

Moyesy has no fresh injury worries ahead of the home clash against Burnley. Ossie played through the pain barrier against Sunderland but should be fit to carry on in the starting eleven. Phil Neville was a surprise inclusion in the Squuuuaddd for match against The Mackems, and if the result is going well against The Dingles there will be a chance of him coming on for his first run out since late September.

Burnley have surprised a few since their promotion to the top flight, and back in August they did us 1-0 at Turf Moor. We have to go back to 1973 to when we last beat Burnley, but don't worry we have only met them a handful of times in ensuing period. We are however in a seven-game winless streak which equals our worst Premier League run under Moyesy, but in our last four we are undefeated with four draws on the batter in the Premiership. Lets finish 2009 of with a win, three points and a halfway position in the League. COYB FTRS

Johhny says: "We're not happy because we played very well today - like last week. We created many chances but we didn't score (more) and they created only one chance and they took it.

Of course when you play away and you draw 1-1, maybe you are happy. But when you see the game today, you see that there was only one team that deserved to win. Monday is our next game and the team spirit is good. All the players can't wait to play in that game (against Burnley). It's important (to get the victory) and it's the only thing that will count on Monday," he declared.

It doesn't matter how you win, whether it's good or bad football - you need the points, when you're at the bottom end of the Premier League table. In my eyes (Fellaini) was the best player on the pitch. I'm happy for him and happy for us that he scored the equaliser."

Lavo's Best Bet In Association With Free Bet For The Blues

Well then so our year of 2009 draws to a betting close, and thank fuck for that. In this calendar year I have gone from a five bed detached, to a caravan to a tent, now a cardboard box on the canal, all through my shite bets. Lets hope 2010 brings me more luck, as I dust myself sown, climb out of my said cardboard box I am currently residing in, and win us a fortune. In fairness to me some of my bets were just unlucky, ah that's what they all say anyhow.

So then onto today. There is no real history between us and Burnley to talk about of late, so maybe that is good thing. We are probably the shortest price at home we have been for a long while at 5/8, while Burnley are nearly 6/1 (draw is 3/1) Their away form is poor, and apart from the odd defeat for us at home, teams do still find it hard to win at Goodison. My old favourite bet that won us a few bob early doors is over 2.5 goals and you can get even money on that one.

Goalscorers, King Louis is 9/2, as is The Yak for the first one today. Tiny is 8/1 and Screech is 12's, Hibbo my boy is 80/1,and it will happen one day. Good luck to all, and see you in 2010.
