Everton:
Howard,
Gosling, Yobo, Distin, Baines,
Bilyaletdinov, Rodwell, Pienaar, Fellaini,
Cahill Bench:
Nash,
Yakubu for Bilyaletdinov
(52m), Osman for Cahill (45m), Saha for Pienaar (69m), Nash, Baxter,
Wallace, Mustafi. Referee: I
love night matches at Goodison, somehow it always reminds me of Big
Dunc and that’s not a bad thing. I know why but I’m not going to explain
it to you. The Toffees started really well and were on top straight from the start. Dan was having a ball down the right forgetting that he playing in defence. After 10 minutes the Blues went 1 up when our captain Joey Yobo scored with a free header at the back post from a Bainsey corner Another 6 minutes later Everton got their second from another corner. A bit of a scrappy affair but was stabbed home from Sylvain for his first goal in an Everton shirt after Fella had his effort blocked. Oh my god we were rampant. And by the way how gorgeous is Sylvain? It wasn’t one way traffic, AEK looked a decent side. They had a few long rangers just off target, but our lads were really up for it. My team scored a third with an absolute beauty from Peanuts. He was left on his own after Everton broke clear and with about 25 yards stuck a piledriver that flew into the net. The only downside of the first half was a booking for Tim Cahill. It looked like he got the ball but it was a bit of a two footer Half time 3-0 Ozzie came on for Timmy at the start of the second half, probably due to the booking he got just before the half. Billy, who looks a player, was the next to leave the pitch for the ever smiling Yak. One of the Greek chappies was sent off after 50 odd minutes for what looked like a kick after Sylivan had cleared the ball. He went down the tunnel very quickly as though he was going to smash some plates when he got to the changies. I don’t know why but there was an extra two refs doing the game. This is supposed to be a trail for the Europa League. These chaps are situated behind the line by the goal. They don’t run up and down and they don’t have a flag. I started to feel sorry for them until I seen one of them had his hands down his shorts. He was either having a tug or just getting a warm. King Louis came on for Peanuts on about 70 minutes. Question quickly going around the ground of when was the last time did we have 3 strikers on the pitch. I don’t know the answer so we may have to ask Sting Ray. Jo got Everton’s forth after good work for the Yak. After quite a bit of stick lately Jo got his reward for a hard working display. Well played Tokyo. In injury time King Louis got himself sent off for what looked like a swinging arm. I don’t think he connected badly but the number 7 went down as though been hit across the face by a very big wet trout. But with so many refs looking on you got to keep your hands to yourself. There were some very encouraging signs for the rest of the season especially in this competition. Everton completely dominated the game and there were some very good individual displays. The lads at the back were impressive. Jack Rodwell had another was excellent game. It was great to see the Yak back. I love him. But my Blue Kipper Star Man goes to Leighton Baines who was brilliant from start to finish. Full Time 4-0

Moyesy says: "The extra officials were looking for something to do and for them not to see the kick on Louis inside the box, was disappointing. We hope that we get more decisions right than we get wrong. He didn't have many big decisions to make. There seems to be more and more people on the ground and it makes life a little hard for the officials. He came off with a groin strain (Billy), which was disappointing because we wanted to give him as much time as possible. But I think he enjoyed it and I think we enjoyed him as well. There are early signs he could be a good player. British
supporters and teams are not used to seeing players on the ground so
often. I've always said the one thing we have to cut out of football
is diving, that is the biggest thing in football that is wrong at the
moment." (18/09/09) |

Well only a month in and we have major selection problems already in the season. A crocked Captain, a suspended right back, another right back / centre half who is ineligible, so Moyesy has to shuffle his pack as the Blues embark on their Europa Cup Group opener against AEK Athens at Goodison tonight. Hibbo is suspended after his dismissal against Sigma a fortnight ago, Captain Phil is crocked for at least five months, and Jonny Boy can't play till January in this Competition after playing the other week in the Champions League. Danny G Laa will step in as an emergency right back, and is showing the spirit we love when he says he will play anywhere in the Royal Blue. He will join Sylvian, Joey and Bainsey at the back, and in midfield when can welcome Billy who will be making his first start for the Blues since joining us a few weeks ago. Does Moyesy stick with Jo, or unwind The Yak, I for one hope it is the latter, and we feed our front man so he can score. Come on You Blue Boys !!

The Villareal match apart, the Blues record in European homes matches has been excellent in recent seasons. In the 2007/08 season, we remained unbeaten at Goodison, even beating the eventual winners Zenit at home. Clubs we have played of late, Standard Liege, Fiorentina, AZ Alkmaar to name but a few have all gone on to big and better things in the Champions League. As a consequence Everton are only 1/2 for the home win, which is a bit paltry considering our shit start to this season. Little is known about the Greeks AEK apart that they are from Athens, finished fourth in their domestic League last season and have Nemeth (red shite) playing for them. They are 7/1 for the away win, and the draw is 3/1. Over 2.5 goals which is a favourite of mine (I don't know why as I never win on it) is a tasty 6/5, under the same mark is 5/6. Billy is making his debut, and if you fancy a flutter on him to score first, you can get 10/1, Tiny my talisman is 15/2. Lavo's Best Bet: £10 on over 2.5 Goals 6/5 For all Markets, click on the links: All Betfair Markets and Free £10 Bet Season Total: £19 |

AEK have won the lot in Greek football, in fact they are the only club to have swept the board with every trophy that there is on offer in Greece. They do however have to go back to 2002 since they last lifted silverware, and that was the Greek FA Cup. Their best effort in Europe was making the Semi Final stage of the UEFA Cup as far back as 1977 when Italian giants Juve did them 5-1 over two legs. They currently sit third in the Greek League behind Everton's arch foes Panathinaikos and Aris Salonika. AEK finished fourth last season, sixteen points behind eventual winners Olympiakos, and six points ahead of the Blues last Greek opposition Larissa. |
