Manager & Players Confident Of Progressing

Moyesy says: "Liège did look a good side, but I am optimistic we can get through. It's a terrific competition and we really enjoyed it last season, as did the supporters."

Jags says: “When you look at who we could have got, then I suppose you have to say we’ve been a bit unlucky but we’re still fully confident. They gave Liverpool a decent game and they are clearly a good side but we know what the European games are all about now after last season and we’re looking forward to it.

If you get to the Uefa Cup you can’t expect any easy rides but we know a fair bit about Liege and we’ll know a lot more by the time we play them. We were at home first against Metalist last season and even though that didn’t go too well we did enough over two legs to get through

The last Goodison game in Europe had just about the best atmosphere I’ve ever played and I can’t wait to run out again in this one. The Evertonians will have a big part to play, there is no doubt about that. We all enjoyed Europe last season and we don’t want to it slip away early this time around. The lads have spoken briefly about Liege but there’s much to concentrate on before then. We’ve got some big League games to play first and all our focus for now is on them.” (30/08/08)
