Well
I can't fib and say I was there, but a load of bacon butties, copious
amounts of tea, and what a pleasant way to spend a Wednesday dinner
time, watching the team you love in a pre season friendly. Thailand
fielded their U23 Squad, and they were up for it. It looked like the
instructions from Moyesy was don't kill yourselves out there. From the
off, Everton were second best, and as early as the ninth minute, Nige
was picking a rasper of a shot out of his net.
As
the game went on, Everton settled in, with Mikky in the middle looking
the class act we know he is. Everton's were rewarded on the stroke of
half time, when Marcus ran onto a through ball, and slotted it neatly
under the keeper.
Everton's
class started to show in the second period, but our class was matched
by Thailand's determination. It was their FA Cup Final, and they were
putting Martyn under a bit of pressure from time to time. Moyesy made
a few subs, notably Vaughan replacing Mikky. The game fizzled out, and
went to pens. Davey Weir, Killer and Faddy scored, Joey was the villain
of the piece sending a tame shot directly at the keeper.
Thailand
won, they went wild, and we will have to wait to play notloB or Shiittteeehhh,
for the wooden spoon. (20/07/05)
Moyesy
says :
"It was not the result we wanted nor the performance. It was a
very poor performance and it resulted in us losing the game. I didn't
think we were particularly sharp but overall we just didn't play well
enough. All credit to the Thai players because they did well and looked
nice and sharp. It was a hard game for us.
We
won't hide behind the conditions. Everybody knows what it's like out
here but it was obviously better for the home side. Nevertheless we
had enough opportunities to have won the game." (20/07/05)

Moyesy
has hinted that everyone who is fit will get a kick tomorrow, as Everton
and Thailand play in the opening match of the Asia Cup. With the temperatures
soaring in the Far East, Everton will be allowed to make up to eight
substitutes. With a game at the weekend as well, Moyesy will do everything
in his powers to protect the players from the fierce humidity.
A crowd of 65,000
is expected, in the Ramjalanga Stadium, and with the exception of Lee
Carsley, Everton should field most of their first teamers. notloB, or
Shiiitttteeeeehhh, await the winners of this one, so throw a sickie,
sit back, put on Sky and watch the Blues in Thailand.
Moyesy
says:
"I
don’t know an awful lot about the Thai national team but I am looking
forward to playing them. Our sponsors are Chang and I think it would
be great if all the Thai supporters came along. I think there are some
cheap tickets at about 300 baht for the match so all the local supporters
should come along and see the game.
Winning
the tournament here is not the important thing for us at the moment.
The most important thing is for us to get the players in the right condition
for the start of the Premiership. Bangkok is nice for holidays but I
don’t know about playing football. It’s a test for the players because
of the heat and the humidity but it’s something that we’ll have to get
used to very quickly.
The
games here are an important part of our pre-season. The conditions will
play a part I am sure and we are allowed to make up to eight subs in
each game and we all try to make use of that if we can. We will look
at our squad of players and see. We’ve got one or two injuries at present
and we are training later on today so we will decide on the team tomorrow."
